December is here and Hanukkah is just around the corner! Hanukkah is one of my favorite holidays, hot greasy food, dancing girls and lights in the darkest month of the year! I'm pleased to announce that with my Schlep Sister (Minnie Tonka) and Jen Gapay of Thirsty Girl Productions; I am producing THE 3RD ANNUAL MENORAH HORAH! This is a once a year extravaganza, we've got a STELLAR LINE-UP including Kenny Mellman and Golem!!

There is MORE! I'm back teaching at THE NEW YORK SCHOOL OF BURLESQUE, performing and modeling in Great Barrington, MA with SUGAR SHACK BURLESQUE, and PINCHBOTTOM BURLESQUE! Wait, that's not it, there is MORE! This month is jam-packed with holiday festivities, check it out!!

Summer was MAGNIFICENT, I just returned from Barcelona, with new friends and new ideas!

This month is full of exciting events including The Jackie Factory's 3rd Annual Low Life: Viper Mad(9/6), live music and Burlesque with my favorite band Not Waving but Drowning(9/18), and the first ever Burlesque Disco Dance Party(9/19)at the NEW Beauty Bar!

ABOUT THE PRODUCERS

DARLINDA JUST DARLINDA
Darlinda Just Darlinda has been working as a Burlesque Performer in New York since 2003. She coined the term "Polyester Performance", an inspiring mixture of Burlesque, Modern Dance, Performance Art, Psychedelic Happening, Comedy Sketch, and Drag Queen Ballet. She holds a degree in Teledramatic Arts and Technology from California State University, Monterey Bay. In this program Darlinda was given the tools to integrate many art forms, theater, Film, Video, New Media, and Radio. Focusing on live performance she's produced many Burlesque events in New York City and California. She debuted “I love Dr. Nina Simone" at Galapagos Art Space in August of 2005. This show integrated modern dance, burlesque and performance art in a loving tribute to Nina Simone. She has continued to produce shows in New York City, most recently "The Year in Rainbow Finale" in August of 2008 at the Zipper Factory. Last month I did a shoot with Adrian Buckmaster, a photo comic "strip" of sorts! It's at the Very Bottom of this post(Not work safe as usual!!)

Such an EXCITING MONTH!! It began with a feature in Black Book Magazine by Walt Cessna click on the photo and read on!

And of course The Burlesque Hall of Fame Pageant and Reunion in Las Vegas Nevada that took place last weekend(Photos Below!!!)

From the seedy Blue Angel Cabaret to the CWTV’s Gossip Girl, in the past decade burlesque has infiltrated the mainstream yet manages to remain a transgressive art form. While it flirts with popularity burlesque at its best does not compromise its subversive origins, erotic themes, and defiant ideals. It naturally lends itself to promoting queer philosophy and values without necessarily calling attention to its inherent queerness.
Contemporary burlesque, often known as neo burlesque, borrows from various genres including dance, drag, performance art, theatre, and, of course, traditional burlesque. It is a hybrid art form that mixes traditions, flaunts rules and standardizations in order to remain provocatively entertaining.
The seminars will invite some of the leading neo burlesque performers in New York to perform as well as provide the theoretical and historical context for their work. The seminar participants will have the opportunity to read about, observe, and engage with this unique form of performance art that advances the artistic expression by constantly challenging the political and cultural authorities.

Jo "Boobs" Weldon will be presenting her thoughts and research on burlesque as part of the tradition of American leisure culture, and leisure & play as quests essential for the survival of not only the spirit but also the body.

Darlinda Just Darlinda will be presenting her thoughts on feminism and burlesque.

JZ Bich will be presenting her thoughts on the use of identity in creating universality while using the tools of burlesque.

Well Folks the New Year is here! 2009 has already been a blast and we're only 6 days into it! Already there are video's, art openings and LOTS OF FUN SHOWS! So here's what I've got for you this month!

Clams Casino, called a "Burlesque Queen" by the New York Times, is one of New York's favorite stars of the bump 'n' grind, and has performed on stages around the country. This summer Clams was the winner of two coveted trophies, for Most Innovative and Most Comedic at the world's only international burlesque competition, the 2008 Miss Exotic World Pageant, sponsored by the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. She is also the co-producer of Killer Queen Burlesque, Bump & Grindhouse, Smells Like Tease Spirit and a number of other pop-culture obsessed burlesque shows in New York City and along the Eastern Seaboard.
Darlinda Just Darlinda has been working as a Burlesque Performer in New York since 2003. The Village Voice calls Darlinda a "Mastermind of Bizarre Extravaganza," for good reason! She coined the term "Polyester Performance", an inspiring mixture of Burlesque, Modern Dance, Performance Art, Psychedelic Happening, Comedy Sketch, and Drag Queen Ballet. Darlinda has performed both nationally and internationally, most receintly at the Neo-Feminist Burlesque Symposium at The University of London. She has continued to produce and perform in shows in New York City, most recently "The Year in Rainbow Finale" in August of 2008 at the Zipper Factory.
